Though not a traditional flower, no list of religious plants would be complete without the olive tree. From ancient times until today, olive branches have long been a symbol of peace and victory throughout much of the world. The tree also holds special significance to each of the three Abrahamic religions. Muslims associate olive trees with Paradise, and it is said that Muhammad anointed himself with olive oil so often that his prayer shawl became saturated with it. In Christianity, some traditions hold that Jesus was crucified on a cross made of olive wood, and archaeologists have found crucifixion nails that had slivers of olive wood still attached.  For Jews, olive trees represent peace, prosperity, beauty and God’s relationship with His people. Olive oil was used for many things in ancient Israel, from cooking to anointing kings, and olive branches still appear on the Israeli emblem today in honor of that history.

Helianthus  is a genus of plants comprising about 70 species. Except for three species in South America, all  Helianthus  species are native to North America and Central America. The common names "sunflower" and "common sunflower" typically refer to the popular annual species  Helianthus annuus , whose round flower heads in combination with the ligules look like the sun This and other species, notably Jerusalem artichoke ( H. tuberosus ), are cultivated in temperate regions and some tropical regions as food crops for humans, cattle, and poultry, and as ornamental plants. The species  H. annuus  typically grows during the summer and into early fall, with the peak growth season being mid-summer. Perennial sunflower species are not as common in garden use due to their tendency to spread rapidly and become invasive. Changing The Water In Your Flower Arrangement First remove any dead or dying flowers from the arrangement. After carefully removing the good flowers, clean the vase thoroughly with soapy water to remove any bacteria that could cause the fresh flowers to deteriorate even quicker. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. Replace the water  and mix in the flower preservative provided by your florist, according to the instructions on the packet. For best results, cut stems with a sharp knife at an angle about one to two inches from the bottom. This allows them to better absorb water. Do not use scissors to cut your flowers because they can crush the stems and prevent water absorption.
